Content License
Understand your rights over AI-generated scientific figures created with Plottie AI, and your responsibilities when publishing them.
Your Generated Content
When you use Plottie AI to create a figure, the resulting Generated Content belongs to you. Plottie does not claim copyright or any other intellectual property rights over the specific figures, charts, diagrams, or illustrations you produce through the Service.
Full Commercial Rights: You are free to use, modify, publish, distribute, and sublicense your Generated Content without restriction from Plottie. This includes peer-reviewed publications, conference papers, grant proposals, theses, dissertations, commercial applications, and educational materials.
You can export your figures at any time in PNG, PDF, or SVG format. Plottie retains a limited license to store and display your Generated Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service as described in our Terms of Service.
Platform Rights
While you own your Generated Content, Plottie retains all rights to the underlying platform, tools, and infrastructure — not your output. This includes:
- The canvas editor and interactive user interface
- Pre-built figure templates and design presets
- The AI prompt interpretation and generation pipeline
- The code execution infrastructure and sandboxing system
- The Plottie brand, logo, and associated trademarks
Nothing in this license grants you any right to copy, reverse-engineer, distribute, or create derivative works from the Plottie platform itself.
AI Model Attribution
Plottie AI is powered by multiple large language models including Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, and OpenAI GPT. These models process your prompts to generate code and visual outputs.
No Claim on Your Output: Neither Plottie nor the underlying AI model providers make any intellectual property claim on the figures you generate. The AI models serve as tools — the creative direction, data, and intent come from you.
Research Publication Guidelines
Verify Accuracy Before Publishing
AI-generated figures may contain errors, inaccurate axis labels, or visual artifacts. You are solely responsible for reviewing and verifying all Generated Content before use in any academic publication, presentation, or grant application. Cross-check all numerical values, axis labels, and statistical representations against your original data source.
Disclose AI Assistance
Many publishers — including those following COPE, ICMJE, or Nature Portfolio guidelines — require authors to disclose the use of AI tools in producing figures or text. You must independently verify and comply with the policies of your target journal or publisher.
Suggested disclosure statement:
"Figures in this manuscript were created with the assistance of Plottie AI (ai.plottie.art), an AI-powered scientific figure generation tool. All figures were reviewed and verified by the authors for scientific accuracy."
This is a suggested template only. Always consult the specific guidelines of your journal or institution for required disclosure language.
Third-Party Content
Some features of Plottie AI allow you to reference or incorporate open-access scientific plots from published literature, sourced from our main platform at plottie.art.
Attribution Required: Open-access plots sourced from published literature are made available under Creative Commons licenses (CC-BY, CC-BY-NC, etc.). You must provide proper attribution to the original authors and comply with the specific license terms for any third-party content you incorporate into your work.
No Warranty
Generated Content is provided "as is" without any warranty, express or implied, regarding its scientific accuracy, statistical validity, or fitness for publication. AI systems can produce plausible-looking but incorrect visual representations, including:
- Axis scales or labels that do not accurately reflect the underlying data
- Statistical representations that may not match your actual analysis
- Diagram elements that may not be scientifically standard in your field
- Color schemes that may not be colorblind-accessible unless specifically requested
Plottie shall not be liable for any damages or consequences arising from your use of Generated Content, including editorial rejection, publication retraction, or academic misconduct findings. Scientific integrity is your responsibility as the researcher.
